Beetroot Halwa Recipe/ How to make halwa
We all know how healthy beetroots are. But we generally end up adding them to salads or eating them sliced with our meal. This makes it almost non appealing to the kids and they get all the reasons to stay away from it. Even I never knew beetroots can make such a delicious halwa. Beetroot halwa recipe is a combination of wonderfood beetroots, apples and jaggery.
Here Beetroot is combined with apples and it gives this sweet dish an amazing flavour. Adding nuts and fresh cream makes it so royal and tasty that you forget its a beetroot preparation. It hardly takes any time to prepare this if you have chopper at home. Even grater does a good job and cooking beetroot does not take long.
When I heard about this halwa for the first time even I was not convinced about the taste. But considering the fact that Carrots and Bottle guard also makes delicious halwa I decided to give it a try. After all Beetroots and Carrots come from the same family.
Beetroots are good source of Vitamin C, Iron and Magnesium, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Folate, Potassium and Manganese. It naturally has sweeter taste and so we do not need to add loads of sugar to make this halwa. Even apples give this halwa a sweet flavour.
This beetroot halwa recipe is again my moms invention and believe me we never fussed about eating beetroots when we were kids. It is not only quick and tasty but might top on nutritional chart. Its sugar less and is prepared by adding jaggery. Here I have used watermelon seeds to give it an extra crunch but you can use almonds instead. I have used khoya/mawa but homemade fresh cream also goes well with it.
